Bradford High School students in Ms. Bower’s English Fundamentals 2 class visited Kindred Kitties on Mar. 11 to practice their reading fluency skills.
The visit aimed to help students improve their reading proficiency and confidence by reading aloud to animals at the shelter, while also learning about how the organization cares for cats waiting for adoption.
According to the school, spending time with animals can support literacy development and provide a positive experience for both students and shelter pets. The activity was designed as a way for students to give back to the community while working on their academic goals. “Reading to animals helps build confidence and improve reading proficiency while also giving back to the community. It was a purr-fect learning experience for everyone involved!” said the school in its announcement.
While Bradford High School organized this recent event, Indian Trail High School and Academy had the largest number of students among Kenosha County schools in the 2023-24 school year, with a total of 2,001 students according to data from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. Enrollment at Indian Trail High School and Academy increased by 1.1% from the previous year as reported by state education officials.
Indian Trail High School and Academy’s enrollment figures reflect ongoing trends in student population within Kenosha County according to official statistics.
The collaboration between Bradford High School and Kindred Kitties highlights efforts by local schools to engage students in community-based learning experiences that foster both academic growth and civic involvement.
