Kenosha County Board Chairman Mark Nordigian announced on Apr. 28 his committee appointments for the new board term, which will run through April 2028.

Nordigian outlined a revised committee structure that reduces the number of supervisors serving on most standing committees from seven to five. The Finance and Administration Committee and the Executive Committee will continue to have seven members as required by board rules.

Nordigian said several factors influenced this change, including efficiency, accountability, lower administrative costs, and improved group cohesion. “I worked diligently over the last week in developing the committees,” Nordigian said. “Of the supervisors I was able to connect with, I heard them and worked to make committees that I thought would be cohesive, respectful, and diligent.”

Nordigian was elected chairman during last week’s organizational meeting of the board. Supervisor John Franco was chosen as vice chairman. During Tuesday evening’s meeting, Nordigian said: “I’m committed to working collaboratively, listening thoughtfully, and making decisions that reflect the best interests of our residents. Together, we have an opportunity to build on our strengths and address the challenges ahead with integrity and purpose. I am looking forward to the work we will accomplish together.”

The announcement comes as Kenosha County schools report changing demographics among students for the current academic year. Indian Trail High School and Academy has enrolled 2,001 students—the highest in Kenosha County—followed by Tremper High School with 1,458 students and Bradford High School with 1,448 students according to data from Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. Of all students attending county schools during 2023-24 (25,402 total), white students made up about 55.6% (14,124), Hispanic students were second at 25.7% (6,528), Black students third at 10.4% (2,642), multiracial students fourth at 6.6%, American Indian fifth at just 0.2%, while Pacific Islander students were least represented at only about 0.1% according to state education data.

The new committee assignments are set for immediate effect as listed by Nordigian in his statement.
