FOIA Request Sent to City of Kenosha Regarding Same Day Registered Voters on November 7, 2024

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the City of Kenosha regarding a list of new voter registrations that occurred on November 5, 2024. The request was made by us at Kenosha Reporter, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.

The request was made under the Wisconsin Open Records Law, §19.31 et seq., with a preference for receiving the information in an electronic format. The requested records pertain specifically to individuals who registered to vote on Election Day, November 5, 2024.

As members of the media, we are actively involved in gathering and reporting news to the public. Access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities, which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals.

We await the response from the City of Kenosha and will continue our efforts in promoting transparency and accountability within our local government institutions.
