FOIA Request Sent to Village of Pleasant Prairie Regarding New Voter Registrations on November 7, 2024

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Village of Pleasant Prairie in Wisconsin on November 7, 2024. The request, issued by Kenosha Reporter, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, sought information regarding new voter registrations.

Specifically, the FOIA request asked for a list of voters who registered on Election Day, November 5, 2024. As part of our ongoing commitment to transparency and accountability in public institutions, we at Kenosha Reporter believe that access to such public records is essential.

The request was made under the Wisconsin Open Records Law, §19.31 et seq., with a preference for receiving the data in an electronic format. This is in line with our efforts to facilitate quick and efficient dissemination of information to the public.

As a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, we have also requested a fee waiver for this FOIA request. We firmly believe that access to such crucial information should not be hindered by financial constraints as it plays a pivotal role in our professional responsibilities which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.

We await a response from the Village of Pleasant Prairie regarding this request and will continue our pursuit of transparency in local government affairs.
