Gateway Technical College issued the following announcement on March 16.
The process and name may have changed, but the solid work that goes on remains the same – Gateway Technical College’s Information Technology students will hold another of their popular public computer repair clinics March 18 and March 19 in Room 113 in the Michigan Room of the Racine Building on the Racine Campus, 1001 S. Main St.
The student group – now called dig.IT – will hold the clinic over two days but in a new process:
Customers will drop off their devices from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. March 18 at the Michigan Room.
Computers will be picked up the next day, Saturday, March 19. Students will call or text the owners of the computers the time for the computers to be picked up.
Computers will be worked on a first-come, first-served basis until capacity is reached. Those who bring in laptop computers or tablets are asked to also bring in a power supply cord.
Students can assist with the following:
Update PC operating systems
Check for viruses
Diagnose Internet access issues
Upgrade Windows 7 or Windows 8 programs to Windows 10.
The clinic is a fundraiser for the student club. Participants are encouraged to contribute a donation for each computer worked on. Money raised helps to pay for students to compete in statewide and national information technology events.
The Michigan Room can be accessed through the eastern entrance to the Racine Building next to the northeast parking lot of the campus.
Many members of the community have benefited from participating in the clinic. The event also allows students to give back to the community while honing the skills they will use once they enter their career.
