The Kenosha Unified School District announced on Apr. 14 that elementary students and their families are invited to participate in the Growing Gardeners Family Education Program, where they can plant a “Salsa Pot” with ingredients such as tomatoes, cilantro, and peppers. The program will be held on Tuesday, May 5 at Jeffery Elementary and Thursday, May 7 at Grant Elementary from 6 to 7 p.m.
The event aims to teach families how to care for their plants and enjoy fresh produce throughout the summer. Farmer Stephanie from the Funkin Farm will lead participants through interactive activities designed for all ages.
According to the district, everyone is welcome at family education programs. Non-Kenosha Unified School District families and community members must join the Family Education Programs Community Group before registering for this event. Once joined, participants will receive updates and can register for future events without rejoining.
While the focus of this program is on elementary students and their families, recent data shows that Indian Trail High School and Academy had the largest student body among Kenosha County schools during the 2023-24 school year with a total of 2,001 students according to state records. Enrollment at Indian Trail High School reflected a 1.1% increase compared to the previous year as reported by state data.
Indian Trail High School’s enrollment numbers demonstrate ongoing growth within Kenosha Unified School District according to official figures.
