Rex Davenport has been chosen by the Kenosha Common Council to fill the vacant seat in the city’s 4th District, following the resignation of Alderperson Holly Kangas. Kangas stepped down from her position effective September 16, 2025, citing personal health reasons. She had served as alderperson since 2018 and was re-elected in each subsequent term, most recently in 2024.

Mayor David Bogdala expressed appreciation for Kangas’ years of service. “We extend our gratitude to Alderperson Kangas for her commitment and service to the people of Kenosha,” said Bogdala. “We wish her strength and good health in the months ahead. We also welcome Rex Davenport to the Council and look forward to working with him as we continue moving our community forward.”

The process to fill the vacancy began after the Common Council passed a resolution on October 6 notifying the City Clerk about the open seat. The clerk then published a public notice in a local newspaper within 30 days, as required by city ordinance. A 15-day application period followed, during which residents of the 4th District who are at least 18 years old, U.S. citizens, and eligible voters could apply.

Two residents submitted applications: Rex Davenport and Craig Sadur. Both were considered during Monday evening’s Council meeting before Davenport was elected to serve out Kangas’ term through April 2026.

“We had two very qualified applicants,” Mayor Bogdala said. “I really appreciate both of you stepping up to this role.”

The Kenosha Common Council acts as the legislative body for the city, representing residents across its seventeen aldermanic districts and handling responsibilities such as setting local policies, approving budgets, and addressing community needs.
