Kenosha County will hold its annual Veterans Breakfast and Resource Fair on Saturday, Nov. 2, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Kenosha County Job Center, according to an announcement from County Executive Samantha Kerkman. The event is open to the public and aims to honor those who have served in the U.S. military.
Doors will open at 8:30 a.m., with breakfast sponsored by Piasecki Funeral Home being served at 9:15 a.m. The program will also feature military honors and the playing of the national anthem at 9 a.m.
Attendees can visit a resource fair with informational vendors and receive free haircuts provided by Gateway Technical College student barbers throughout the morning.
“This event kicks off a series of Veterans Day events that will be held throughout the county over the following days,” Kerkman said. “I encourage veterans, their families — and anyone who supports our veterans — to join us for breakfast, fellowship, and an informative resource fair.”
Following this event, several other Veterans Day programs are scheduled across Kenosha County. These include school programs such as those at Jeffery Elementary on Nov. 7 and Christian Life School on Nov. 8, as well as ceremonies hosted by local organizations like American Legion Post 21 and VFW Post 1865 on Nov. 11.
The events span multiple locations including schools, churches, community centers, and parks across Kenosha County and nearby areas such as Pleasant Prairie and Silver Lake.
Gateway Technical College will also host several activities for veterans including a Cut-A-Thon on Nov. 4, an Honor Dinner on Nov. 12, and a movie screening on Nov. 20.
In addition to honoring veterans through these gatherings, Kenosha County’s diverse population is reflected in its schools during the current academic year. Of the more than 25,000 students enrolled in Kenosha County schools for the 2023-24 school year, about 55% are white students while Hispanic students represent approximately one-quarter of enrollment and Black students make up just over ten percent (https://dpi.wi.gov/). American Indian students remain among the least represented groups in county schools (https://dpi.wi.gov/).
The full list of Veterans Day events is available through the Kenosha County Division of Veterans Services.
