Kenosha County will hold its annual Veterans Breakfast and Resource Fair on Saturday, November 1, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Kenosha County Job Center, according to an announcement by County Executive Samantha Kerkman. The event is free and open to the public, with doors opening at 8:30 a.m.

The breakfast, sponsored by Piasecki Funeral Home, aims to honor those who have served in the U.S. military. Breakfast will be served at 9:15 a.m., following military honors and the playing of the national anthem during a brief program at 9 a.m.

Throughout the morning, attendees can visit a resource fair featuring informational vendors. Free haircuts will also be provided by student barbers from Gateway Technical College.

“It’s an honor to celebrate with our veterans and their supporters at this event every year, and it’s a wonderful kickoff to the series of ceremonies and programs that follow on Veterans Day and in the days leading up to it,” Kerkman said.

A full schedule of Veterans Day events compiled by the Kenosha County Division of Veterans Services includes several programs across local schools, churches, community centers, and veterans organizations through November 11.

On Thursday, November 6, Jeffery Elementary will host its Veterans Day Program where veterans are invited into classrooms for discussions with students. Christian Life School will hold its program on Friday morning at Journey Church Auditorium with a light reception afterward. Also on Friday is a worship service followed by lunch at Lord of Life Lutheran Church.

Saturday’s events include another breakfast at Village Pub of Silver Lake in Silver Lake. On Sunday afternoon, Pleasant Prairie will hold its ceremony at Prairie Springs Park.

Gateway Technical College will host a Veterans Honor Dinner on Monday evening with retired Army veteran Joshua Deron as guest speaker.

Tuesday features multiple observances: Wilmot Union High School’s breakfast and assembly; Salem Consolidated Grade School’s program; American Legion Post 21’s celebration including Flanders Field Ceremony; Navy Club Ship 40’s ceremony at the Civil War Museum; VFW Post 1865’s events throughout the day; Kenosha Area Vietnam Veterans’ ceremony in Library Park; and Shoreland Lutheran High School’s event featuring Navy Veteran Jeremy Krusemark as guest speaker.

In related demographic information for Kenosha County schools during the 2023-24 academic year, Indian Trail High School and Academy had the highest enrollment among local schools with over two thousand students. White students made up just over half of all students enrolled countywide while Hispanic students were the second largest group at about one-quarter of enrollment. Black students represented just over ten percent of students attending county schools. American Indian students were among the least represented ethnic groups locally.
