Kenosha County will hold its annual Veterans Breakfast and Resource Fair on Saturday, November 1, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Kenosha County Job Center. The event, announced by County Executive Samantha Kerkman, is open to all community members and aims to honor military service.
Doors open at 8:30 a.m., with breakfast sponsored by Piasecki Funeral Home served at 9:15 a.m. The morning will include military honors, the national anthem, and a brief program starting at 9 a.m. Attendees can also access information from various vendors and receive free haircuts provided by Gateway Technical College student barbers.
“It’s an honor to celebrate with our veterans and their supporters at this event every year, and it’s a wonderful kickoff to the series of ceremonies and programs that follow on Veterans Day and in the days leading up to it,” Kerkman said.
Following Saturday’s fair, several Veterans Day events are scheduled throughout Kenosha County:
– On Thursday, November 6, Jeffery Elementary will invite veterans into classrooms for discussions with students.
– Christian Life School will host its program on Friday, November 7.
– Lord of Life Lutheran Church will offer a worship service followed by lunch later that day.
– A Veterans Day Breakfast is set for Saturday, November 8 in Silver Lake.
– Pleasant Prairie’s ceremony takes place Sunday afternoon.
– Monday features Gateway Technical College’s Honor Dinner with guest speaker Joshua Deron.
– On Tuesday, Wilmot Union High School holds its observance along with Salem Consolidated Grade School’s program.
– Other Tuesday events include celebrations hosted by American Legion Post 21, Navy Club Ship 40 at the Civil War Museum, VFW Post 1865 activities throughout the day, Kenosha Area Vietnam Veterans ceremony in Library Park at noon, and Shoreland Lutheran High School’s event in Somers.
These programs are coordinated by local schools and organizations. For instance, Indian Trail High School and Academy is among the largest schools in Kenosha County during the current academic year. Tremper High School and Bradford High School also have significant enrollments according to state data (https://dpi.wi.gov/). Demographically, white students make up just over half of Kenosha County’s school population (https://dpi.wi.gov/), while Hispanic students account for about one-quarter—making them the second-largest group—and Black students represent roughly one-tenth of enrollment (https://dpi.wi.gov/). American Indian students remain among the least represented groups locally (https://dpi.wi.gov/).
