Kenosha County will hold its annual Veterans Breakfast and Resource Fair on Saturday, November 1, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Kenosha County Job Center, according to County Executive Samantha Kerkman. The event is free and open to the public, with doors opening at 8:30 a.m.
The breakfast, sponsored by Piasecki Funeral Home, aims to recognize the service of U.S. military veterans. Breakfast will be served at 9:15 a.m., and the program includes military honors and the playing of the national anthem at 9 a.m.
Throughout the morning, attendees can visit informational booths at a resource fair and receive free haircuts provided by student barbers from Gateway Technical College.
“It’s an honor to celebrate with our veterans and their supporters at this event every year, and it’s a wonderful kickoff to the series of ceremonies and programs that follow on Veterans Day and in the days leading up to it,” Kerkman said.
Following this event, several other Veterans Day programs are scheduled across Kenosha County:
– On Thursday, November 6, Jeffery Elementary will host a Veterans Day Program where veterans will visit classrooms.
– Friday, November 7 features two events: Christian Life School’s program at Journey Church Auditorium with a light reception afterward; and a worship service followed by lunch at Lord of Life Lutheran Church.
– Saturday, November 8 includes a breakfast for veterans at Village Pub of Silver Lake.
– Sunday, November 9 brings Pleasant Prairie’s ceremony at Prairie Springs Park with refreshments provided.
– Monday, November 10 sees Gateway Technical College hosting an Honor Dinner featuring retired Army veteran Joshua Deron as guest speaker.
– Tuesday, November 11 offers multiple observances including Wilmot Union High School’s breakfast and assembly; Salem Consolidated Grade School’s program; American Legion Post 21’s celebration with ceremonies and stew; Navy Club Ship 40’s ceremony at the Civil War Museum; VFW Post 1865’s events including lunch and flag retirement; Kenosha Area Vietnam Veterans’ ceremony in Library Park; and Shoreland Lutheran High School’s ceremony with Navy Veteran Jeremy Krusemark as guest speaker.
In addition to these events honoring veterans across various locations in Kenosha County schools—where Indian Trail High School & Academy had the highest enrollment during the last school year—demographic data shows that white students comprised just over half of county enrollment (55.6%), Hispanic students were about one quarter (25.7%), Black students accounted for just over ten percent (10.4%), while American Indian students represented only about two-tenths of one percent of all students during the same period. More information about local school demographics is available from Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.
