Kenosha County will hold its annual Veterans Breakfast and Resource Fair on Saturday, November 1, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Kenosha County Job Center. The event is free and open to the public, with doors opening at 8:30 a.m., according to County Executive Samantha Kerkman.
The breakfast, sponsored by Piasecki Funeral Home, will be served at 9:15 a.m. in the commons area of the Job Center located at 8600 Sheridan Road. Attendees can also participate in military honors and listen to the Star-Spangled Banner during a brief program starting at 9 a.m.
A resource fair featuring informational vendors will be available throughout the morning, along with free haircuts provided by Gateway Technical College student barbers.
“It’s an honor to celebrate with our veterans and their supporters at this event every year, and it’s a wonderful kickoff to the series of ceremonies and programs that follow on Veterans Day and in the days leading up to it,” Kerkman said.
Several other Veterans Day events are scheduled across Kenosha County in early November:
– On Thursday, November 6, Jeffery Elementary will host a Veterans Day Program where veterans are invited into classrooms for discussions.
– Friday, November 7 includes two events: Christian Life School’s program at Journey Church Auditorium followed by a reception, and a worship service with lunch at Lord of Life Lutheran Church.
– A breakfast is planned for Saturday, November 8 at Village Pub of Silver Lake.
– Sunday, November 9 features Pleasant Prairie’s ceremony at its Veterans Memorial.
– Monday evening on November 10 brings Gateway Technical College’s Honor Dinner with guest speaker Joshua Deron.
Veterans Day itself—Tuesday, November 11—includes several observances:
– Wilmot Union High School hosts a breakfast and assembly for community veterans.
– Salem Consolidated Grade School invites all veterans for its morning program.
– American Legion Post 21 holds its celebration including Flanders Field Ceremony and stew lunch (more details available at https://alpost21.com).
– The Civil War Museum presents a ceremony led by Navy Club Ship 40.
– VFW Post 1865 offers events including lunch and flag retirement.
– Library Park hosts the Kenosha Area Vietnam Veterans Day Ceremony.
– Shoreland Lutheran High School welcomes Navy Veteran Jeremy Krusemark as guest speaker for their afternoon ceremony.
These events reflect ongoing efforts within Kenosha County schools and organizations to recognize local veterans’ contributions. During the current school year (2023–24), Indian Trail High School and Academy had the highest enrollment among county schools; Tremper High School ranked second; Bradford High School was third. More information about local education demographics shows that white students made up just over half of Kenosha County’s student body this year while Hispanic students were about one quarter—the second largest group—and Black students were third largest. American Indian students remained among the least represented ethnic groups locally. Additional data can be found through state resources such as https://dpi.wi.gov/.
