Kenosha County seeks applicants after resignation leaves board seat open

Kenosha County is seeking applicants to fill the vacant 5th District seat on the County Board following the resignation of Supervisor Brian Thomas, effective Monday, July 1. The announcement was made by County Clerk Regi Waligora.

Residents of the 5th District, located on the northwest side of the City of Kenosha, are eligible to apply for the position. A map detailing the district boundaries can be found online at bit.ly/KCDist5. Applicants must reside within and be qualified electors of the district.

The appointed individual will serve as supervisor until a successor is chosen in the spring 2025 nonpartisan election. Supervisors are required to attend board meetings at 7:30 p.m. on the first and third Tuesdays each month and typically participate in several committees, which usually meet four to five evenings monthly. The annual salary for this role is $6,526.

Applications must be submitted to the County Board chairman via the county clerk by 5 p.m. on July 22. Submissions can be delivered in person, mailed through U.S. Postal Service, or emailed to [email protected].

Applicants will undergo interviews before an appointment is made at the August 6 County Board meeting.

During the most recent school year in Kenosha County, Indian Trail High School and Academy had the highest student enrollment with over two thousand students, followed by Tremper High School and Bradford High School (https://dpi.wi.gov/). White students comprised just over half of all students enrolled in county schools for that year (https://dpi.wi.gov/), while Hispanic students were about a quarter and Black students accounted for roughly ten percent (https://dpi.wi.gov/). American Indian students represented a very small percentage of local school enrollment (https://dpi.wi.gov/).
