Kenosha County seeks applicants for vacant 5th District Board seat after resignation

Kenosha County is seeking applicants to fill the 5th District County Board seat after Supervisor Brian Thomas resigned, effective July 1. The announcement was made by County Clerk Regi Waligora.

Residents of the district who are interested in the position can now submit their applications. The 5th District is located on the northwest side of the City of Kenosha. A map showing the district boundaries can be found online at bit.ly/KCDist5. To qualify, applicants must be residents and qualified electors of the 5th District.

The appointed individual will serve until a successor is elected in the spring 2025 nonpartisan election. County Board supervisors attend meetings at 7:30 p.m. on the first and third Tuesdays each month and usually serve on several committees, with an expected commitment of four to five evenings per month. The annual salary for this position is $6,526.

Applications are available online at bit.ly/KCBoardApplication or at the County Clerk’s Office in the Administration Building at 1010 56th St., Kenosha. Completed applications should be submitted to the County Board chairman via the county clerk by 5 p.m. on July 22. Submissions can be made in person, by mail, or via email to [email protected].

Interviews will be conducted before an appointment is made at the August 6 County Board meeting.

According to data from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, Indian Trail High School and Academy had the highest enrollment among Kenosha County schools during the 2023-24 school year with over two thousand students, followed by Tremper High School and Bradford High School (https://dpi.wi.gov/). Demographic data show that white students comprised just over half of Kenosha County’s student body in that period, while Hispanic students were about one-quarter and Black students represented just over ten percent (https://dpi.wi.gov/). American Indian students were among the least represented ethnic groups in local schools (https://dpi.wi.gov/).
