Kenosha County seeks applicants for vacant District 5 board seat after resignation

Kenosha County is seeking applicants to fill the vacant 5th District County Board seat after Supervisor Brian Thomas resigned effective July 1, according to an announcement from County Clerk Regi Waligora.

Residents of the 5th District, located on the northwest side of the City of Kenosha, are eligible to apply. A map of the district can be found online at bit.ly/KCDist5. Applicants must be residents and qualified electors of the district.

The appointed supervisor will serve until a successor is elected in the spring 2025 nonpartisan election. County Board supervisors attend meetings at 7:30 p.m. on the first and third Tuesdays each month and typically serve on several committees, requiring a commitment of four to five evenings per month. The annual salary for this position is $6,526.

Applications are available online at bit.ly/KCBoardApplication or can be picked up at the County Clerk’s Office in the county Administration Building at 1010 56th St., Kenosha. Completed applications must be submitted to the County Board chairman, care of the county clerk, by 5 p.m. on July 22. Submissions can be made in person, by mail, or via email to [email protected].

Applicants will be interviewed before an appointment is made at the August 6 County Board meeting.

Kenosha County schools serve a diverse student body. In the 2023-24 school year, white students comprised about 55.6% (14,124) of all students attending local schools, while Hispanic students represented approximately 25.7% (6,528), and Black students accounted for around 10.4% (2,642). American Indian students were among the least represented groups at just 0.2%. Additional enrollment data shows that Indian Trail High School and Academy had the highest enrollment with over 2,000 students during this period (https://dpi.wi.gov/).
