Kenosha County seeks applicants for vacant District 5 board seat after resignation

Kenosha County is seeking applicants to fill the vacant 5th District County Board seat following the resignation of Supervisor Brian Thomas, effective Monday, July 1. The announcement was made by County Clerk Regi Waligora.

Residents interested in the position must live within the 5th District, which is located on the northwest side of the City of Kenosha. A map of the district can be found online at bit.ly/KCDist5. Applicants must also be qualified electors of the district.

The appointed supervisor will serve until a successor is elected during the 2025 spring nonpartisan election. County Board supervisors are required to attend meetings at 7:30 p.m. on the first and third Tuesdays each month and typically participate in several committees, resulting in a commitment of four to five evenings per month. The annual salary for this role is $6,526.

Applications can be submitted online at bit.ly/KCBoardApplication or collected from the County Clerk’s Office at 1010 56th St., Kenosha. Completed applications must be returned to the County Board chairman via the county clerk by 5 p.m. on July 22. They may be submitted in person, by mail, or by email to [email protected].

Applicants will undergo interviews before an appointment is made at the August 6 County Board meeting.

Kenosha County schools serve a diverse student body. During the 2023-24 school year, white students comprised about 55.6% (14,124) of enrollment; Hispanic students were approximately 25.7% (6,528), and Black students accounted for around 10.4% (2,642). The largest schools by enrollment in Kenosha County for that year were Indian Trail High School and Academy with over two thousand students, followed by Tremper High School and Bradford High School. Additional statistics can be accessed through https://dpi.wi.gov/.
