Kenosha County seeks applicants for vacant Fifth District Board seat after resignation

Kenosha County is seeking applicants to fill the 5th District County Board seat following the resignation of Supervisor Brian Thomas, effective July 1. The announcement was made by County Clerk Regi Waligora.

Residents of the 5th District, located on the northwest side of the City of Kenosha, are eligible to apply for the position. Applicants must be residents and qualified electors of the district. A map outlining the district boundaries is available online at bit.ly/KCDist5.

The person appointed to this role will serve until a successor is elected in the spring 2025 nonpartisan election. County Board supervisors are required to attend board meetings held at 7:30 p.m. on the first and third Tuesdays each month and typically participate in several committee meetings, totaling four to five evenings per month. The annual salary for this position is $6,526.

Applications must be submitted to the County Board chairman, care of the county clerk, by 5 p.m. on July 22. Submissions can be made in person, via U.S. Postal Service delivery, or by email to [email protected].

Applicants will undergo interviews before an appointment is made at the August 6 County Board meeting.

Kenosha County schools enrolled a total of 25,402 students during the 2023-24 school year, with Indian Trail High School and Academy having the highest enrollment among local schools (https://dpi.wi.gov/). Demographic data from that period shows white students accounted for just over half of all students enrolled in Kenosha County schools (https://dpi.wi.gov/), while Hispanic students were about a quarter and Black students comprised just over ten percent (https://dpi.wi.gov/). American Indian students represented a small fraction of enrollment during that time (https://dpi.wi.gov/).
