A public information meeting is scheduled for July 16 to discuss Kenosha County’s efforts to reduce serious crashes on local highways. The meeting will take place from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the Pleasant Prairie RecPlex, located at 9900 Terwall Terrace.
Kenosha County received a federal grant to develop a Comprehensive Safety Action Plan aimed at eliminating deaths and serious injuries on county roads. The plan will identify high-risk areas, prioritize safety concerns, and suggest ways to address these issues.
The committee responsible for developing the plan includes representatives from both the county and its municipalities and has been working since early this year. Initial findings from their work will be shared at the upcoming meeting.
County Executive Samantha Kerkman said, “The committee looks forward to sharing its findings with the public and gathering further input to inform the process.”
Residents are encouraged to review draft materials and provide feedback about traffic safety issues or dangerous locations on county trunk highways. Those unable to attend can contact Darren Fortney, Senior Principal at Short Elliott Hendrickson Inc., which is conducting the study, by phone or email.
A second public meeting is planned for September 26 at the Kenosha County Center in Bristol after a final draft of the plan is completed.
In related data, Kenosha County schools enrolled 25,402 students during the 2023-24 school year. Of these students, white students accounted for 55.6% (14,124), Hispanic students made up 25.7% (6,528), and Black students represented 10.4% (2,642). American Indian students were among the least represented groups at just 0.2%.
