Two new grant programs will be available to Uptown Area businesses in 2026, aiming to support local economic growth and improve the neighborhood. The Uptown Area Facade Grant and the Uptown Area Business Recruitment and Retention Grant are set to provide financial assistance to commercial property owners.

The facade grant offers up to $10,000 in reimbursable funds for renovations to street-facing facades. This program covers up to half of eligible project costs. Projects that qualify include improvements such as windows, doors, awnings, lighting, landscaping, fencing, signage, siding, tuckpointing, masonry work, and architectural services with a cap of $2,500. Funding for this initiative totals $50,000 and is provided by the Redevelopment Authority of the City of Kenosha.

The business recruitment and retention grant gives up to $5,000 in reimbursable funds per recipient. It covers up to 75% of total eligible project costs aimed at improving retail experiences in Uptown. Eligible expenses include purchasing new inventory (excluding alcohol), equipment upgrades, marketing efforts, and technology enhancements. This program is also funded with $50,000 through a Small Business Development Grant from the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation.

Mayor David Bogdala commented on the launch: “Through these new grant programs, we’re giving our local business owners the tools they need to refresh their storefronts, strengthen their operations and continue building a vibrant neighborhood,” said Mayor David Bogdala. “Uptown has always been a cornerstone of Kenosha’s identity, and in 2026, we’re doubling down on our commitment to its growth and success.”

Applications for both grants are now open. Interested business owners can contact the City of Kenosha’s Department of City Development at 262-653-4030 for more information about how to apply.
