The City of Kenosha has issued a reminder to residents about the regulations that apply during declared snow emergencies as winter approaches. The aim is to keep streets and sidewalks clear and safe.

Residents are required to follow posted snow route rules. Parking is not allowed in areas with snow route signs after two inches of snowfall. Vehicles found in violation may be fined or towed. A snow emergency can be declared by the city when four inches or more of snow is expected, has fallen, or if road conditions become hazardous due to snow.

The city provides at least two hours’ notice before enforcing snow emergency measures, allowing time for motorists to move their vehicles off city streets. “IN THE EVENT OF A SNOW EMERGENCY, PARKING IS PROHIBITED ON ALL CITY STREETS,” according to the city’s announcement. However, overnight parking will be permitted in specific Downtown and Uptown city lots during these times.

Residents are also allowed to park on front lawns during declared emergencies. It remains illegal for anyone to blow, plow, or shovel snow into the street.

Public notifications about snow emergencies will be broadcast through local media outlets such as WLIP 1050 AM and Spectrum Channel 25. Updates on parking restrictions are available via a 24-hour hotline at 262-653-4074.

Snow emergency alerts will also appear as pop-up windows on the city’s website (https://www.kenosha.org/departments/public_works/seasonal_operations), and updates will be shared through social media platforms including X, Instagram, and both the City of Kenosha’s and Kenosha Police Department’s Facebook pages. Notifications will also be sent out via AlertSense, the city’s mass notification system.

Further details about posted snow routes and designated parking lots can be found on the City of Kenosha’s official website.
