Kenosha Unified School District was recognized on April 29 with the Best Communities for Music Education Award from The NAMM Foundation, marking the twelfth consecutive year it has received this honor. The award highlights the district’s commitment to providing strong music education programs and ensuring access to music learning opportunities.
The recognition is part of a national program that celebrates school districts and individual schools across the United States for their dedication to music education. More than 1,000 districts and schools were honored in 2026, including public, private, charter, and parochial institutions.
“Our music programs reflect the hard work and dedication of our staff, who set high standards, and our students, who consistently strive to exceed them,” said KUSD Superintendent Dr. Jeff Weiss. “This honor also reflects the unwavering support of our community, which greatly values high-caliber music offerings.”
Recipients of the award are chosen through an application process that reviews funding levels, instructional time devoted to music education, student participation rates, facilities quality, and community support. Applications are independently reviewed by WolfBrown to ensure accuracy.
Indian Trail High School and Academy had the largest number of students among Kenosha County schools in the 2023-24 school year with a total enrollment of 2,001 students according to data from Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. This figure represents a 1.1% increase from the previous year’s enrollment as reported by Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.
