Residents in Kenosha are being advised by the Kenosha Water Utility (KWU) to take steps to prevent their water pipes from freezing as extremely cold weather approaches. KWU is reminding those with plumbing near exterior walls or in areas lacking insulation to be especially cautious.

To reduce the risk of frozen pipes, KWU recommends heating areas where plumbing is present and using insulation around vulnerable sections. Insulation can be purchased specifically for pipes or improvised with items like insulating blankets.

The utility also suggests running water through faucets connected to at-risk pipes, which helps keep water moving and reduces the chance of freezing.

KWU stated, “If you have a frozen water service or would like additional information please contact KWU’s Customer Service Department at 262-653-4300 during normal business hours (8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.). If you have a frozen water service emergency outside of normal business hours please contact 262-653-4330.”

The utility noted that response times may be delayed due to the severe weather conditions and urged residents to take all possible precautions.
