A public meeting will be held to discuss proposed improvements to Kenosha County Highway W, covering the section from the Illinois state line to Highway C. The meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 5, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Wilmot Union High School Library, located at 11112 308th Ave., Wilmot. Attendees are asked to use the north parking lot and enter through Entrance N on the northeast corner of the building.

The event will follow an open-house format, allowing residents to attend at their convenience. During the meeting, attendees can view exhibits that display recommended alternatives for the project and learn about real estate acquisition needs. County real estate consultants will be present to answer questions about this process.

According to project details, “The Highway W improvements are approximately 1.8 miles in length and extend from the Illinois State Line to Highway C east (113th Street). The purpose of this project is to improve the safety of the roadway, maintain acceptable traffic operations, and replace the failing pavement. Portions of the roadway may be reconstructed to improve safety.”

Construction is planned for 2026. Throughout construction, access will remain available for local businesses and residences. Both permanent and temporary real estate acquisitions are expected as part of this effort.

Wilmot Union High School is not among Kenosha County’s largest schools by enrollment; Indian Trail High School and Academy leads with over 2,000 students in the 2023-24 school year according to data from https://dpi.wi.gov/. Demographic information shows that white students make up just over half of Kenosha County’s student body (55.6%), with Hispanic students representing about a quarter (25.7%) and Black students making up roughly one-tenth (10.4%). American Indian students are among the least represented groups at just 0.2% according to recent statistics from https://dpi.wi.gov/.

“The meeting will be conducted with an open-house format. Attendees may stop in at their convenience to view exhibits, meet with project staff, ask questions and provide feedback.”

“The exhibits will show the recommended alternative with real estate acquisition needs. The county’s real estate consultants will be available to answer any questions you may have regarding the real estate acquisition process.”

“Construction is currently scheduled for 2026. Access to local businesses and residences will be maintained throughout the project. Permanent and temporary real estate acquisitions will be required for this project.”
