Carthage College recently issued the following announcement.
For The Time Being’ Student Art Installation
MARCH 03, ALL DAY (UNTIL MARCH 9)
VPAL, H.F. JOHNSON GALLERY OF ART
Carthage students, faculty, and staff are invited to the exhibit “For The Time Being” Thursday, March 3 through Wednesday, March 9, in the Visual Performing Arts Laboratory (VPAL), accessible through the H. F. Johnson Gallery of Art.
“For The Time Being” showcases Arianna Cunningham’s ’23 exploration in life-size plaster casting and installation art. The opening for the exhibit will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 3.
Arianna uses plaster-dipped fabric and gauze to cast the human figure. The dynamic poses constitute the solidified moments in time. Each figure is faceless, drawing attention to the intimate details of the body. The artist’s process is evident in this sculptural work. This body of work is inspired by the plaster casting processes of artist George Segal (1924-2000).
