Graduate Piano Recital Featuring Linlin Chen M.M. ’22
Date:
JUNE 02, 2022
Time:
7:30PM
Location:
CDTH. F. JOHNSON RECITAL HALL
Linlin Chen M.M. ’22 will perform a piano recital at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, June 2, in the H. F. Johnson Recital Hall.
Linlin will perform a collection of works from various famous composers, including Robert Schumann, Franz Joseph Haydn, Franz Listz, and Franz Peter Schubert. Inspired by the Arab tradition, Robert Schumann’s “Arabesk” is a piece in rondo form, a consistent tune constantly interrupted by minor mournful notes. Franz Joseph Haydn’s “Piano Sonata No. 49” was one of six sonatas dedicated to Katherina and Marianna Auenbrugger. This beautiful work has a second subject, followed by a restated exposition. “Hungarian Rhapsody No. 5” was one of twenty rhapsodies composed by Franz Liszt. Partaking in both fantasy and transcription, No. 5 is a refined work of art as it emerges with a mixture of gypsy music and Italianisms. Franz Peter Schubert’s “Impromptu No. 3” was one of two sets composed the year of his death. Free of any superabundance of notes, each impromptu is an excellent display of music — each work short, succinct, and lucid. The third impromptu was composed as an introspective lyrical poem in a G-flat minor.
