A community clean-up and kite festival will take place on Saturday, September 27 at Lincoln Park. Participants are invited to gather by the Oribiletti Center on Martin Luther King Drive at 10 a.m. to receive trash bags and gloves for a park clean-up effort. The kite festival is scheduled to follow from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The “Time to Fly Kite Fest” is free and features high-flying kites, children’s games, activities, and a picnic lunch. The event is sponsored by the City of Kenosha and the Kenosha Parks Alliance, with support from community partners and Gift of Wings in Milwaukee.
Gift of Wings will provide kite flying entertainment and demonstrations, including performances by professional kite fliers who coordinate stunt routines set to music. Scott Fisher of Gift of Wings also presents the “Outta Sight Kite Flight” with the City at Kennedy Park in June. According to organizers, “Time to Fly Kite Fest” is a smaller version of that two-day event.
The Mary Lou and Arthur F. Mahone Fund will supply free kites for those who register for the “Kids Mad Dash,” which takes place at 12:45 p.m., where participants attempt to launch their kites simultaneously. Attendees may bring their own kites or obtain one at the festival in order to join other contests for fun and prizes.
Lunch will be provided free of charge by the Kenosha Kingfish at the concession pavilion near 18th Avenue, along with complimentary custard from Culver’s on Sheridan Road. Community partners will also offer information booths, activities, crafts, and games during the event.
Organizers note that this kite festival marks the conclusion of special summer and fall activities overseen by the Kenosha Parks Alliance.
