The City of Kenosha is preparing to demolish four former school buildings that were acquired from the Kenosha Unified School District in May 2025. The city intends to redevelop these sites for future community purposes.
The properties scheduled for demolition include two Kenosha Technology Enhanced Curriculum (KTEC) campuses, the former McKinley Elementary School, and Washington Middle School. The KTEC East site at 6811 18th Avenue, which was previously Lincoln Elementary School, will be redeveloped by Kenosha Unified Schools as a campus designed to help reduce traffic congestion during student drop-off and pick-up times.
The KTEC West building at 5710 32nd Avenue and the adjacent McKinley Elementary School at 5520 32nd Avenue are planned for conversion into residential lots. This redevelopment will create approximately 30 single-family homes along with a small neighborhood park.
Washington Middle School, located at 811 Washington Road, will be reserved for future development projects.
Demolition work will be managed by two contractors: New Berlin Grading Inc. is responsible for removing KTEC West, McKinley Elementary, and Washington Middle School; KR Contractors will handle the demolition of KTEC East. City staff plan to collaborate with both companies to minimize disruption in nearby neighborhoods and have committed to keeping residents informed throughout the process.
