The City of Kenosha will hold St. Patrick’s Day events on Saturday, March 14, including a Guinness Fun Run and the Eric Olson Memorial St. Patrick’s Day Parade. As part of the celebration, several downtown streets will be temporarily closed to traffic.
The 2-kilometer Guinness Fun Run is scheduled to start at 9:30 a.m. near Captain Mike’s at 5118 Sixth Avenue. The route goes south through downtown along Sixth Avenue before looping back north to the starting point.
At 10:45 a.m., the St. Patrick’s Day Parade will begin at 50th Street and Seventh Avenue, heading south on Sixth Avenue and ending at Library Park. The parade is organized by the City of Kenosha in partnership with Visit Kenosha and the Lakeshore Business Improvement District.
“The Kenosha Area Pipes and Drums Association will highlight a spirited lineup of more than 80 entries, including bands, community groups, elected officials, businesses and entertainers,” according to event organizers.
Street closures for the parade will affect areas between 50th Street and Seventh Avenue, extending south along Sixth Avenue to Library Park. Streets are expected to reopen by 1:30 p.m., except for block party locations near Swede’s (510 56th Street) and Captain Mike’s (5118 Sixth Avenue), which will remain closed until midnight on March 14.
Simmons Island will also have limited access starting at 8 a.m., as it serves as the parade staging area. However, entry for Great Lakes Yacht Sales, The Kenosha Yacht Club, the Kenosha History Center, and the Kenosha Water Utility will be maintained.
Free parking is available in the ramp located at Eighth Avenue and 56th Street as well as on most downtown streets unless otherwise posted.
