Waste collection delayed in Kenosha due to landfill closure after blizzard

The City of Kenosha announced on March 16 that residential waste collection will begin later than usual and may take longer to complete on Tuesday, March 17.

The delay is due to high winds and blizzard conditions on Monday, which caused area landfills to close. As a result, the city was unable to transfer waste collected on Monday to its landfill.

City crews will first haul the accumulated loads of waste to the landfill before starting normal residential collection routes. This process means that waste collection for Tuesday routes will start later and could extend further into the day than residents are accustomed to.

Despite the delay, all garbage placed at the curb for regularly scheduled Tuesday routes will still be collected. The city also confirmed that recycling collection is not affected by landfill closures and will proceed as normal.

Residents are asked to leave their garbage carts at the curb until collection has been completed.
