Lamar Madison is running for a seat on the board of the Kenosha Unified School District.
Madison will be on the ballot for the Feb. 21 primary and hopes to advance to the April 4 general election.
“Remember that the primary election is on 21 February," Madison posted on Facebook. "Early vote if you can. Talk with everyone you know and get them out to vote. Help me get through this primary then on to victory in the spring. Thank you all in advance for your help."
Madison will face incumbent Yolanda Adams and Tony Garcia in the April election. It is one of the only competitive school board races in Kenosha County this election cycle.
On his campaign website, Madison expanded on why he is running for Kenosha Unified School District.
“I am running on a student-first, parents' rights, back-to-basics platform,” Madison said. “I want to help you protect your children from progressive indoctrination within the educational system.”
During COVID-19, many parents’ eyes were opened to the decision-making process regarding their children’s education. Board members were making decisions that affected students and the community as a whole with little opposition or parent input. I am a common sense conservative who believes in a robust education system that focuses on academic fundamentals and job skills training, not activism and agendas. The purpose of education is to give students the intellectual ability to analyze and reach conclusions based on logic and evidence. It’s not about telling students what to think. Our children need to be able to weigh competing ideas and have an actual debate.”
Before announcing his run for school board, Madison was outspoken on social media regarding the country’s current political state.
“We are living in a post-constitutional country,” Madison said on Facebook.
“Government agencies are using social media platforms as an instrumentality of the state violating and destroying our First Amendment rights. The rule of law is one-sided. The government sees half the population as racist and bigots because they have different beliefs about how our country should be run. Many of us keep looking to the government to solve the problem that the government has created. The problem is too big in many cases. Thank God our founding fathers gave us a peaceful way to restore our republic. Please familiarise yourself with Article V or read the book 'The Liberty Amendments' by Mark R. Levin."
Madison is backed by members of the Kenosha chapter of Moms for Liberty. Wisconsin Assemblywoman Amanda Nedweski, who is co-chair of Moms for Liberty, supported Madison in a recent Facebook post.
“I will be at Rustic Road Brewing Company today until 2PM supporting my good friend, Lamar Madison, for KUSD school board," she posted. "Come by and say hi!”
