Brookside Care Center named best nursing home in Kenosha County by U.S. News

Kenosha County’s Brookside Care Center has been recognized as a Best Nursing Home for Short-Term Rehabilitation and Long-Term Care for 2025 by U.S. News & World Report. The annual rankings, now in their 14th year, are intended to help prospective residents and families make informed decisions about nursing home care.

For the 2025 ratings, U.S. News evaluated more than 15,000 nursing homes nationwide on criteria including care quality, safety, infection rates, staffing levels, and health inspections. Only 16 percent of skilled-nursing facilities across the United States received the “Best Nursing Home” designation this year.

Brookside earned a “Highly Performing” rating—the highest possible—in both short-term rehabilitation and long-term care categories. It was the only facility in Kenosha County to achieve this distinction in either category.

“I’m honored that Brookside received the top honors in this thorough, national review of nursing home quality,” said Kenosha County Executive Samantha Kerkman. “Brookside is truly a gem in our community, with a dedicated staff and a long history of high-quality care.”

Brookside has previously appeared in U.S. News ratings as well as other national publications’ lists of top nursing homes. In August 2023, it received a deficiency-free review from Wisconsin’s state agency regulating nursing homes; this assessment covered health and life safety compliance over a period beginning April 2022.

“I’m immensely proud of Brookside and the caring staff that make it what it is,” said Robert W. Pitts, chairman of the Brookside Board of Trustees. “Brookside is the nursing home of choice in Kenosha County, and this latest honor is further proof of that. I thank County Executive Kerkman and County Board Chairman Monica Yuhas for their ongoing support of our wonderful facility.”

Lynda Bogdala, Brookside Administrator, highlighted features that distinguish the center from others: all residents have private rooms—some with private bathrooms—higher staff-to-resident ratios than average facilities, recent renovations creating a homelike environment throughout all rooms, and café-style dining with multiple entrée choices at each meal.

“As U.S. News & World Report recognizes, Brookside performs highly by many measures and it is truly an asset for the Kenosha County community,” Bogdala said. “I encourage families to visit and see all that we have to offer in this outstanding facility.”

During the 2023-24 school year in Kenosha County schools white students made up just over half (55.6%) of enrollment while Hispanic students accounted for about one quarter (25.7%) and Black students represented just over one tenth (10.4%). American Indian students were among the least represented ethnic groups at only 0.2%.
