KTEC has announced the upcoming opening of KTEC Schools of Innovation for the 2025-26 school year. This expansion will include a new elementary school for grades 4K-5 and a middle school for grades 6-8, in addition to the existing high school. Together, these institutions will form a unified, STEM-focused educational pathway from kindergarten through high school.
The new schools are planned to be located at Saint Mary’s School campus in Kenosha, where KTEC High School is currently situated. These tuition-free public charter schools will be overseen by an independent board and operate separately from the Kenosha Unified School District (KUSD).
“We are excited to offer a continuous, innovative educational experience from 4-year-old Kindergarten all the way through high school,” said Dr. Angela Andersson, who will lead the expanded KTEC Schools of Innovation. “This expansion allows us to create a seamless, STEM-focused pathway that prepares students for success in college and the careers of tomorrow.”
The schools aim to prepare students for college and career pathways targeting in-demand fields in Kenosha County. Partnerships with local industry leaders such as Krones, Weldstar, and Aviation Advisors; global companies like Snap-on, Inc., Trane, Lincoln Electric, and Festo; and higher education institutions including Gateway Technical College and Carthage College have been established.
“We are creating a new type of public school that erases the boundaries between high school and college, ensuring students are equipped for high-demand careers,” said Paul Fegley, President of the KTEC High School Governance Board. “In order to provide opportunities for all students in our community, it only makes sense to expand our program into a full 4K-12 school model,” he added.
This announcement comes after an agreement between KTEC's original 4K-8 school's board and KUSD to end their charter agreement. As part of this transition, operations at Lincoln Middle School will cease by January 24, 2025. From January 25 onward, KUSD will take over responsibility for educating students currently enrolled there.
“We are proud of the impact KTEC has had in Kenosha,” Dr. Andersson stated. “While we are saddened to see our current partnership with KUSD end at the Lincoln Middle School site, we are excited about the opportunity to unify KTEC under one board and one campus. We can’t wait to begin empowering the next generation of innovators.”
Enrollment is now open for grades 4K-8 at the new elementary and middle schools as well as grades 9-12 at KTEC High School for the upcoming academic year starting August 2025. Spaces are limited with enrollment closing on February 7.
