BERNIE WEAVER FOR CONGRESS: You will not mask them': Parent group demands full school reopening without 'medical mandates.

Zz

BERNIE WEAVER FOR CONGRESS issued the following announcement on June 23.

A loosely organized group of Rochester-area parents is planning a rally Thursday afternoon to demand that public schools be opened "fully" in September, without what they deem to be excessive restrictions related to COVID-19.

The rally will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at the Penfield Central School District administration building, 2590 Atlantic Ave.

Christina Higley, a Webster mother who is organizing the rally, said she chose that location because Penfield Superintendent Tom Putnam is the current president of the Monroe County Council of School Superintendents.

Higley's Facebook group, ROC for Educational Freedom, has attracted about 2,700 members.

"Socially, educationally, and emotionally our children’s needs will NOT be met and it is OUR JOB to get them what they not only need and deserve, but what we pay for as taxpayers," she wrote on the page. "Isolating children, imposing drastic measures upon them daily, or creating a world where they live in fear is absolutely unhealthy and unacceptable."

Higley said that she is most interested in getting some kind of answer from school districts, or New York state, regarding what will happen in the fall — and she does not believe any decisions should be made without parents' input.

"I think a lot of parents aren’t ready for their children to be a part of the social experiment we’ve got going on here," she said in a phone interview. "We’re not going to accept whatever crazy measures without hard data and explanations to support it."
