BERNIE WEAVER FOR CONGRESS: Romeo roars back in Dem primary; Clark, Meeks, Bronson and Cooney win

Zz

BERNIE WEAVER FOR CONGRESS issued the following announcement on July 8.

Incumbent Monroe County Clerk Jamie Romeo won her Democratic primary on the strength of an overwhelming tally in absentee votes, overcoming first-time candidate Jennifer Boutte.

Boutte led Romeo by 900 votes out of 25,800 cast after the initial count of early-voting and Election Day machine ballots. But 32,500 absentee ballots were cast in the race — and Romeo was the pick on nearly two-thirds of them, according to unofficial results released Wednesday afternoon.

Romeo won by more than 8,500 votes, according to those results.

Political newcomers fared well in state legislative races. Jeremy Cooney won the Democratic primary in the 56th state Senate race, Sarah Clark in the 136th state Assembly primary and Demond Meeks in the 137th Assembly district race.
