Kenosha County has adopted its budget for 2025, with both County Executive Samantha Kerkman and County Board Chairman Monica M. Yuhas issuing statements on the matter.
"This budget continues the pattern of fiscally responsible, forward-looking budgeting that earned Kenosha County a top-level AAA bond rating, and it does so while lowering taxes for the median-value homeowner," stated Kerkman. She expressed appreciation for the board's input and is eager to maintain her collaboration with them in the future.
Yuhas remarked, "Tonight, we voted to approve a budget that delivers essential services while keeping the tax levy low for our taxpayers." She emphasized their focus on crucial services that bolster public safety, human services, and infrastructure, describing these as fundamental to community prosperity.
Key aspects of the budget include a reduction in county property taxes by $2.83 for owners of median-value homes compared to last year. This marks the fourth year of consecutive decreases in county taxes for such homeowners.
The budget underscores commitments to public safety and human services by introducing an embedded social worker role within the Sheriff's Department. This position aims to assist individuals during behavioral health-related service calls.
Notable projects in this year's budget include restoring the Ceremonial Courtroom with over $2 million from private donations raised so far. Plans are also underway for expanding Highway K west of 94th Court and implementing safety improvements on Highway W from Wilmot to the state line.
