County Executive Samantha Kerkman has introduced a new accolade dedicated to recognizing exceptional veterans in Kenosha County. The Kenosha County Veteran of the Year Award will acknowledge veterans for their accomplishments and contributions following their military service.

This honor will be bestowed during Kerkman's annual Veterans Appreciation Picnic, scheduled for May 30 at the Kenosha County Veterans Memorial Park. Nominations for this inaugural recognition are open until April 30 at 5 p.m. They can be submitted via an online form available on the Kenosha County website or through paper forms obtained by contacting the Kenosha County Veterans Service Office at 262-605-6690.

“We’re excited to shine a spotlight on the remarkable veterans in our community,” Kerkman stated. “I encourage anyone who knows an outstanding veteran to consider making a nomination.”

A selection committee comprising Kerkman and members of the Kenosha County Veterans Service Office staff will determine the award recipient. All nominees will be informed of their nomination, although those who nominate may opt to remain anonymous to the nominees.

Nominees are required to be residents of Kenosha County.

“This award is a way to honor the veterans in Kenosha County who make a difference in the community,” said Veterans Service Officer Jennifer Blasi. “My staff and I look forward to reviewing what we expect will be an impressive list of nominees.”
