Kenosha County will hold its annual Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event on May 31, as announced by County Executive Samantha Kerkman. Residents living in Kenosha County's city, towns, and villages can dispose of household hazardous waste, e-waste, and refrigerant waste at the Kenosha County Center in Bristol from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
This event is the sole countywide opportunity this year for residents to dispose of such materials. Kerkman highlighted, “We’re pleased to offer this free, convenient opportunity for Kenosha County residents to dispose of various household waste items in an environmentally friendly way.”
Household hazardous waste includes household cleaners, aerosol cans, bug sprays, vehicle maintenance fluids, oil-based paints, paint removal products, fluorescent bulbs, pool chemicals, and garden-related products. E-waste items to be accepted without charge cover desktop computers, laptops, fax machines, keyboards, mice, stereos, scanners, TVs, VCRs, DVD and CD players, printers, phones, copiers, power tools, toner cartridges, and electronic toys. Refrigerator waste such as refrigerators, water coolers, freezers, air conditioners, water heaters, dehumidifiers, microwaves, and other appliances will also be accepted.
Items that will not be accepted are latex paint, tires, infectious or biological waste, propane cylinders, explosives, radioactive waste, medical and pharmaceutical waste, and commercial or business waste. The county provides guidance on latex paint disposal, noting it is not hazardous and can be managed through regular garbage with proper preparation.
Additional details on the event can be found on Kenosha County’s website or by contacting the Office of the County Executive at 262-653-2600.
The event will coincide with a diaper drive organized by Waste Management and 1HOPE to aid foster families in the community. Residents are encouraged to donate unopened packages of disposable diapers and wipes. These contributions will support 1HOPE’s Foster Family Support Network.
