Kenosha Mayor David Bogdala outlined his vision for the city during the 2025 State of the City Address on March 3, 2025. He emphasized innovation, safe neighborhoods, sustainability, and a "sense of belonging" for all residents, highlighting that achieving these goals will require "collaboration" and collective effort.
"I see a Kenosha where innovation fuels our economy, where neighborhoods are safe and thriving, and where every resident feels a sense of belonging," said Bogdala. "I see a City that embraces sustainability, celebrates culture, and ensures every voice is heard. This vision will take hard work, collaboration, and a shared commitment to our community. But I have no doubt that Kenosha is up to the task. Together, we will build a safer, stronger, and more prosperous Kenosha for everyone."
According to Bogdala, Kenosha is experiencing growth and progress under his leadership. He described the city as "flourishing" and pointed to promising opportunities ahead. The mayor stressed the importance of partnerships with local, state, and federal leaders in advancing the city's development. He expressed gratitude to City staff for their significant contributions to Kenosha's progress. In a press release, he said that the state of the city is "strong" and continues to improve daily.
The Kenosha Common Council consists of 17 alderpersons who represent each of the city's districts for two-year terms. The council is tasked with establishing city policies and ordinances and convenes twice monthly at City Hall. Members participate in various committees such as finance, public works, parks, and public safety to oversee municipal operations. Committee appointments are made by the mayor and confirmed by the council.
The Department of Administration in Kenosha operates under Mayor Bogdala's leadership as chief executive alongside City Administrator John Morrissey, who serves as chief operating officer. Together they manage municipal services and work with the Common Council to address community needs, implement policies, and oversee city operations.
Kenosha traces its origins back to an 1835 settlement established by John Bullen under the Western Emigration Company. Initially named Southport, it adopted its current name in 1850.
