Kenosha County Clerk announced that recent absentee ballot mailings from the Center for Voter Information are from a private third-party organization not affiliated with election officials. The announcement was made in a press release on March 11, 2025.

According to Kenosha County Clerk Regi Waligora, these recent third-party mailings may appear official but only contain absentee ballot request forms, not actual ballots. While Wisconsin law allows private organizations to send these forms, election officials do not oversee such mailings or send unrequested voter forms. Waligora cautioned that the voter information on these mailings may be inaccurate, though errors do not necessarily reflect incorrect records with election officials. She also clarified that names and addresses on these mailings are public information that third-party groups can legally obtain from the state.

"These mailings cause confusion, especially among voters who have not requested an absentee ballot and generally do not vote absentee," said Waligora. "Personally, I have received this type of mailing, addressed to my adult children who have not lived or voted in Wisconsin for over five years. My guess is the third-party organizations are using outdated voter lists, which may contain incorrect information."

The Kenosha County Clerk's Office is responsible for conducting federal, state, and countywide elections, managing tax-deeded property auctions, and providing public services such as marriage licenses and passports, all available by appointment. The office strives to ensure elections run smoothly, facilitate the return of auctioned properties to the tax rolls, deliver high-quality services to residents, and support the County Board of Supervisors.

Kenosha County is overseen by elected officials, including a county executive and a 23-member board of supervisors. Located in southeastern Wisconsin, the county borders Racine County, Lake Michigan, Illinois, and Walworth County. Its mission is to enhance community well-being through efficient services that support residents and economic development. The county board represents districts of approximately 7,300 residents each and functions as the legislative body by holding meetings and maintaining committees to address governance matters.
