The recent Leadership Kenosha session, held in March 2025, concentrated on the education sector. Participants gained insights into programs, challenges, and opportunities that are shaping education in the community. The event was hosted by the Kenosha Emerging Leaders Academy (KELA) and included learning sessions, reflections, and strategies to support students and educational initiatives.
The day commenced with an overview and tour of KELA. Executive Director Atifa Robinson explained how KELA is impacting students aged 12-24 through various programs and new initiatives. Robinson also provided updates on upcoming projects aimed at expanding KELA's influence within the community.
Following this, participants engaged with Building Our Future, an organization committed to ensuring that all Kenosha students succeed from early childhood through their careers. This session was led by Brandon Morris, Maggie Campbell (LK23), and Kevin Meagher (LK22). They discussed how Building Our Future creates networks to support key milestones in students' educational journeys. During a "data walk," participants examined educational data to identify strengths and gaps in Kenosha's education landscape. Wendy Tindall, Chief Academic Officer for Kenosha Unified School District (KUSD), shared updates on district initiatives focused on equitable access to quality education.
In the afternoon, attention shifted to personal and professional development as consultant H. Muir conducted a leadership brand workshop. Participants reflected on their top five strengths to craft their Power Source, Purpose, Pitch, and Platform. This exercise helped them articulate their leadership style and consider how they can use their strengths effectively in both community and workplace settings.
