Kenosha County has announced that Memorial Day will be commemorated with multiple events throughout the county over the holiday weekend, as outlined by the Division of Veterans Services.
According to a press release, several Memorial Day ceremonies are scheduled across Kenosha County. The Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery event will commence on Sunday, May 25, at 11 a.m. in Union Grove. On Monday, May 26, Navy Club Ship 40 will host a ceremony at 9 a.m. at Navy Park in Kenosha, featuring the National Anthem, "Eternal Father," and flower and wreath dedications. Concurrently, American Legion Post 293 in Silver Lake will hold a service followed by a parade starting at the American Legion Hall.
In Twin Lakes, American Legion Post 544 is set to conduct multiple ceremonies beginning at 9 a.m. at Mound Prairie Cemetery, then moving to St. John’s Cemetery at 9:30 a.m., followed by an 11 a.m. parade from Lance Park to the Legion Post for a final ceremony. American Legion Post 21 in Kenosha will hold a ceremony at Green Ridge Cemetery at 10 a.m., celebrating the 70th anniversary of its War Memorial honoring World War II and Korean War veterans. At Sunset Ridge Memorial Park and American Legion Post 552, an event featuring veteran name readings, a keynote speech, dove release, bagpipes, and music is planned for 11 a.m.
Other events include an 11 a.m. ceremony by VFW Post 7308 at Old St. Mark’s Cemetery in Kenosha. This will be followed by another Memorial Day ceremony at noon and a flag retirement at 1 p.m. by VFW Post 1865. Finally, the Kenosha Area Vietnam Veterans will hold a noon ceremony with a POW/MIA service at Library Park.
