Kenosha Unified School District (KUSD) has announced the current production of "Lost in Yonkers" by the KUSD Theatre. The play, set in 1942, is a memory piece by renowned playwright Neil Simon.
According to the press release, "Lost in Yonkers" tells the story of two young brothers who are left with their stern grandmother while their father travels for work. They must adapt to life with their mentally challenged Aunt Bella, her secret romance, and their uncle Louie, a small-time hoodlum. Performances will be held at Tremper Studio Theater in Kenosha, Wisconsin on May 15, 16, 17, 22, 23, and 24 at 7 p.m. Tickets are priced at $15 for general admission and $10 for seniors, students, and staff.
KUSD's theater arts education program begins in elementary school with musical and operatic productions and continues through middle and high school with both curricular and extracurricular performances. The district's theater program for the 2024-25 academic year has assigned roles to all auditioning students. Additional auditions for non-musical plays will take place throughout the school year.
Tremper High School opened its doors in January 1965 after construction began in 1964. Designed by John J. Flad Architects and built by Camosy Incorporated, the school spans 272,786 square feet and cost approximately $4.86 million to build. Its first graduating class was in June 1965.
The Kenosha Unified School District was established in 1967 and serves several communities in southeastern Wisconsin including Kenosha City, Pleasant Prairie Village, Somers Town, and Somers Village. The district operates numerous educational institutions including elementary schools, middle schools, high schools as well as charter and choice schools.
