Kenosha County prepares multiple Memorial Day events honoring veterans

Memorial Day will be marked by several events across Kenosha County during the upcoming holiday weekend. The Kenosha County Division of Veterans Services has compiled a list of programs.

The Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery will hold a ceremony on Sunday, May 25, at 11 a.m. at 21731 Spring Street, Union Grove. For more information, contact Marina Johnstone at 262-878-5660.

On Monday, May 26, the Navy Club Ship 40 Kenosha will host a ceremony featuring the National Anthem and “Eternal Father,” along with a flower and wreath dedication. This event begins at 9 a.m. at Navy Park, Sixth Avenue and 54th Street in Kenosha. Heath Ryan can be contacted for details at 808-284-8047.

In Silver Lake, American Legion Post 293 will conduct a ceremony and parade starting with a service at 9 a.m. in front of the American Legion Hall on Cogswell Drive. Dennis Heckler is available for more information at 262-843-3533.

Twin Lakes will see activities organized by American Legion Post 544 beginning with ceremonies at Mound Prairie Cemetery and St. John’s Cemetery from 9 to 9:30 a.m., followed by an 11 a.m. parade from Lance Park to the post location on Lance Drive. American Legion Post 21 in Kenosha will commemorate the day with an event at Green Ridge Cemetery on Seventh Ave., starting at 10 a.m., which includes celebrating the cemetery's War Memorial's dedication anniversary. Matt Christianson can provide additional information at 847-293-6695.

Sunset Ridge Memorial Park and American Legion David Leet Post 552 are set to host their ceremony at Sunset Ridge Memorial Park on Green Bay Road in Kenosha from 11 a.m., featuring various tributes including bagpipes and Taps, as well as singer Morgan Kelsey performing the National Anthem. VFW Post 7308 will hold its event in Pleasant Prairie's Old St. Mark’s Cemetery starting at the same time; John McCoy can be contacted for more information via phone number: 262-358-2415.

Lastly, VFW Post 1865 in Kenosha plans two ceremonies: one for Memorial Day starting noon and another for Flag Retirement commencing an hour later, both located on 39th Ave.; Arran Edwards can provide further details through contact number: 262-652-2751.
