Samantha Kerkman County Executive | Kenosha County
Kenosha County Executive Samantha Kerkman delivered the 2025 State of the County address, reflecting on past achievements and outlining future plans. She emphasized the county's strength and promising outlook.
“The state of Kenosha County remains strong,” Kerkman stated. “Our history is rich, and our future is bright.” This year marks the county's 175th anniversary and the 100th anniversary of the Kenosha County Courthouse dedication. A community celebration for the courthouse centennial is scheduled for August 24.
Kerkman highlighted accomplishments since her election in April 2022, including the restoration of the South Branch of the Pike River. “Together, by asking questions and engaging community partners, we’ve landed on a project that will cost our taxpayers less than what was originally proposed, while achieving the same benefits,” she said.
She also mentioned new initiatives like the Kenosha County Adopt-A-Highway program and a revamped county website aimed at enhancing transparency. “Our recent website overhaul was done with this in mind — seeking to make it easier for people to find out what’s happening in county government, and how they can be a part of the process,” Kerkman explained.
County Board Chairman Monica M. Yuhas praised these efforts: “Allowing our citizens to be more well-informed ultimately helps make for good government.”
Other highlights included reduced property taxes due to high-quality budgets, maintaining a AAA bond rating from S&P Global, and significant economic developments such as Eli Lilly's $3 billion expansion and Microsoft's land purchase for potential development.
The address featured an Emmy Award-winning video showcasing Kenosha’s connection to the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League. Looking ahead, Kerkman expressed enthusiasm for future opportunities: “While we’ve accomplished a lot over the last three years, we’re not taking our foot off the gas pedal.”
