The city of Kenosha has announced that all curbside collection services, including garbage, recycling, brush, tires, yard waste, and bulk pickup, will be suspended on Monday, May 26, due to the Memorial Day holiday. All collections for that week will be shifted one day later.

According to a press release from the city, curbside collection in Kenosha will be delayed by one day during the week of May 26. Routes normally serviced on Monday will be collected on Tuesday, with the schedule shifting accordingly through the week. Regular service is expected to resume the week of June 2. Residents needing pickup for brush, tires, or bulk items must contact the Public Works Department at least one working day in advance. Since City Hall will be closed on May 26, residents are advised to plan ahead for any scheduling needs.

All city-operated drop-off sites will also be closed on Monday, May 26, and will reopen on Tuesday, May 27. The bulk drop-off site at 1001-50th St. will operate from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., the concrete and brick/block site at 6415 35th Ave. will be open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., and the yard waste site at 4071-88th Ave. (HWY H) will operate from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., following their regular weekday and Saturday hours.

The Kenosha Department of Public Works provides services such as engineering, street maintenance, waste collection, and snow control to enhance public safety and convenience. Residents can report issues like potholes and streetlight outages through an online system while alerts on service disruptions and emergencies are available via AlertSense.

Kenosha operates under a Common Council system consisting of the mayor and 17 alderpersons who each represent a district for a two-year term. The city traces its origins back to an 1835 settlement established by John Bullen under the Western Emigration Company. Initially named Southport before adopting its current name in 1850, Kenosha's municipal government oversees various departments including public works, transit, fire and police services, parks, housing along with maintaining ordinances and city planning efforts.
