Kenosha County and the City of Kenosha are set to kick off their annual Bike-to-Work Weeks starting this Saturday, May 31, and continuing through June 14. This initiative was announced by County Executive Samantha Kerkman and Mayor David Bogdala.

The event encourages residents to use bicycles for commuting, offering an opportunity to experience Kenosha County's roads and trails from a cyclist's perspective. Kerkman emphasized the importance of bike safety during this period, stating, “With summer just around the corner, more bicyclists and pedestrians will be out and about throughout our county, and it’s important for everyone to follow the rules of the road and to pay attention while driving or biking.”

Mayor Bogdala echoed these sentiments by highlighting the benefits of cycling in Kenosha. "Exploring Kenosha by bike is one of the best ways to enjoy our city, whether you’re commuting or just riding for fun,” he said. “With more cyclists on our roads and trails, it’s essential that everyone stays alert and shares the road safely."

Participants who ride their bicycles to work during this period can enter a contest with entries submitted online. Prizes include bicycle-themed clothing, equipment, passes to local attractions, among others.

The Bike-to-Work Weeks will culminate on June 14 with the Dairy Air Bike Ride. This free organized ride begins at 7 a.m., departing from Kenosha County Veterans Memorial Park to Mighty Grand Dairy Farm in Brighton for the Dairy Breakfast event. A squad from the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Office will ensure safety during the ride.

The Dairy Breakfast runs from 6:30 to 10:30 a.m., with tickets priced at $10 per person (free for children under six), available at the venue while supplies last.

Support for Bike-to-Work Weeks comes from various local organizations including the county executive's office, mayor's office, Kenosha County Board, City Council, Bicycle Ambassadors, Active Communities Committee along with other sponsors.

Safety tips are provided for both cyclists—such as wearing helmets—and motorists—such as maintaining a safe distance when passing bicyclists—to ensure everyone's safety on shared roads.
