A new state-mandated community health assessment is underway in Kenosha County, and residents are encouraged to participate by completing an online survey. Health Officer Lori Plahmer announced the initiative, which aims to gather data every three years to understand the health needs and preferences of the community.
The survey results will contribute to developing a Community Health Improvement Plan called "Kenosha County Thrive." This plan will guide public health priorities for the county and its partners. "This is a plan that’s developed for and by the community," Plahmer stated. "By participating in the survey, you can help us to focus our efforts to make Kenosha County a healthier community."
Available on the county's website, the survey includes questions about health behaviors, mental health, and overall community well-being. Participants can enter a drawing for a chance to win a $100 Visa gift card.
The survey is conducted in collaboration with Kenosha County Public Health, Aurora Health Care, and Froedtert South. The 2022 survey led to prioritizing access to affordable healthcare, housing, and addressing mental health and substance use issues. These priorities resulted in various initiatives such as resource guides for healthcare and housing, an anti-stigma campaign on substance use, and a "housing for all" plan from which the Kenosha County Housing Task Force emerged.
Plahmer noted that this year's survey aims to identify any new priorities since 2022. "We invite the public to be a part of this valuable process," she said.
Additionally, as part of this year's assessment process, the Kenosha County Thrive team seeks photos that reflect what residents consider making Kenosha County a healthy community.
