Kenosha County Board Supervisors recently visited the construction site of the Kenosha County Human Services Building at 3500 52nd St. The tour was conducted to observe the progress made on the project, which is funded by a $9.85 million Neighborhood Investment Fund grant. Amy Anderson Schweppe, a grant specialist from the Wisconsin Department of Administration, was also present during the visit.
Samantha Kerkman, Kenosha County Executive, expressed satisfaction with the development: “It was a pleasure to share a sneak peek of this state-of-the-art facility that will bring vital services to the center of the populations we serve.”
The new facility spans 147,000 square feet and includes both renovated retail space and a two-story addition. It is situated in Sun Plaza shopping center, near other key community services such as Kenosha Human Development Services headquarters and Kenosha Unified School District Educational Support Center.
Kerkman highlighted the building's design features: “From a medical-grade laboratory to inviting, public programming spaces, the design meets the need for a building that will house a wide-range of services.”
Once completed, this building will accommodate various county divisions including Aging and Disability Services, Behavioral Health Services, Public Health, Veterans Services, Children and Family Services, and Workforce Development services. These divisions are currently housed in an older facility at 8600 Sheridan Road.
The project represents a collaboration between Kenosha County and Bear Development. Under their agreement, Bear Development will take ownership of the existing Job Center property once Kenosha County relocates to Sun Plaza. The old property is slated for future private development.
