Kenosha County Executive Samantha Kerkman issued a statement regarding the newly signed state budget for 2025-2027, highlighting its impact on the county. The budget includes two significant allocations for Kenosha County: $6 million for erosion control in the Kenosha Dunes and funding for 2.5 additional Assistant District Attorney positions.

Kerkman emphasized the importance of preserving the Kenosha Dunes, an environmentally sensitive area along Lake Michigan within the Chiwaukee Prairie State Natural Area. She noted her recent tour with members of the state's Natural Resources Board, which showcased the severe erosion affecting this region. "This $6 million investment from the state will support work to protect the shoreline and preserve southeastern Wisconsin’s last remaining stretch of Great Lakes sand dunes," Kerkman stated.

In addition to environmental concerns, public safety is also addressed in the budget with funding for additional prosecutors in Kenosha County's District Attorney’s Office. Kerkman remarked that these new positions are crucial for maintaining community safety but acknowledged that local costs would arise from necessary support staff. She expressed her intent to collaborate with District Attorney Xavier Solis and the County Board as they navigate these financial details during upcoming county budget discussions.
