The new bill authored by State Sen. Van H. Wanggaard seeks to ensure regular structural inspections of parking facilities to enhance safety and compliance in Wisconsin, according to the Wisconsin State Senate.

In essence, this bill mandates that owners of parking structures hire a professional engineer to inspect the structures' structural integrity at least once within five years of the bill's effective date and every five years thereafter. The inspection results must be submitted either to the Department of Safety and Professional Services (DSPS) or to the local governing authority authorized to conduct commercial building plan examinations. If the required inspection is not conducted, the owner faces a $200 monthly penalty for up to 12 months after the inspection deadline.
